SUMIF in English and Spanish
| English Excel | Spanish Excel | |
|---|---|---|
| Function name | SUMIF | SUMAR.SI |
| Syntax | =SUMIF(range, criteria, [sum_range]) | =SUMAR.SI(range; criteria; [sum_range]) |
| Example | =SUMIF(A1:A10,"Paid",B1:B10) | =SUMAR.SI(A1:A10;"Paid";B1:B10) |
Argument names are shown in English for reference. Spanish examples use the semicolon setting.
What SUMIF does
Adds the values that meet one condition. Example: Adds the B values on rows where column A says Paid.
Semicolons, commas and decimals
Spanish versions of Excel separate arguments with a semicolon or a comma depending on the regional settings of the computer. With semicolons, decimals are written with a comma (3,14). With commas, decimals use a point (3.14). FormulaCheck converts both.
A common mistake
The sum range comes last in SUMIF, but first in SUMIFS.
